This Sunday is a unique Sunday.

Up until now I have only posted these comics for close friends and you have all been awesome and supportive. Over the past two weeks I've been expanding the invite to friends I have not spoken with in ages. Furthermore, I've even invited people I don't know from my classes at U of T.

Because of this aggressive advertising, the blog community has grown 11 fold. Thanks for all those who joined the community and supported the site. Hopefully the blog begins growing under it's own momentum over the coming months.

Odd post this week. Last week I did not post anything and there is a good reason for that. Last week I was shopping my comics around to people outside my circle of friends. Up to this point I have relied on the kindness of my close friends to keep me confidant in my comics. Recently I've been asking some people with experience in Cartooning, Graphic Novels, and comics in general about my comics. Because I was showing my work I wanted people to see some of the best of the best. The last post I made got a lot of nice responses so I didn't want to dilute the hilarity by posting last weeks (less well received) comics. But this week, I've decided to include and lump up last weeks comics with this weeks comics.

Good Sunday to you all.

I have 5 comics for you and I hope at least one makes you laugh. Keep the feed back rolling in. If there is anything I can do to make these better and less of a chore to read, I would love to hear it.

I'm still tapping into the gold mine of hilarity that is my injured situation. In fact I just had surgical staples removed from my Achilles (about 30-35) and yes it hurt more than I can tell you here.

Perhaps you would like an update on my injury? The following pertains to my injury, if you care nothing about this than just skip it (HA! like you are even reading these posts!)

I got the soft cast removed last Thursday. The staple removal hurt but the rest of the procedure didn't bother me. I now have a hard cast and my foot is nestled within this exoskeleton at a rest position (think 45 degree angle). In three weeks I must return to the fracture clinic and have this cast removed so that the doctor can "gently" stretch the Achilles a bit towards the 90 degree position. I've read from Achilles Tendon recovery blogs that this is actually one of the most painful parts (awesome). So over the coming months I will be returning to the hospital, have my cast removed, have my Achilles stretched slightly closer to 90 degrees, then re-casted. Eventually my foot will be stretched to the normal 90 degree position and I think I can start walking in the cast that way.

As for my surgical scar, the doctor said it's healing nicely! This is good news. I even managed to muster up the courage to look at it when my ankle was exposed (if you know me, I am very squeemish and can't normally handle the sight of such things). It looked ok I guess. Since the staples were recently removed it looked very bumpy and soar. The best way to describe it is that it looked like the seem on an old Teddy bear stitching. You know how there is a clear line disecting where the two fabrics were placed together, then there is a ridge with bumps going across this line because of the sewing string used to bind the two fabrics together. But it didn't look anyhting like the scars I've seen on the Achilles Blog. Some of those guys had some real horrific damage, mine looks clean, clear, and under control (gross advertising)!

Lastly, I didn't realize how difficult it is to get around in crutches. My shoulders feel pained from attending classes last week!

Hello, Hello!

I skipped last week because I was, you know, in surgery. I know it was selfish, but I hardly had time between being starved and going under the knife to write up anything that I could post.

So now I have 5 comics. Mostly they are just mildly funny observations from my injury week. I know for sure that most of these comics don't really 'make the grade.' That is, they aren't really funny but may make you smile...maybe.

So take them as you wish. Don't be too hard on me though. It's freaking difficult to find a comfortable place to put my leg while I draw, eat, e-mail...or anything else for that matter.

That is why this edition of That's Comical is called "Injured and Frustrated"... I expect this title to change little over the next 6 months.

My Achilles Tendon Rupture

Hello All!

Here is the deal. Some of you know and some of you don't, but I had some surgery done last night. I Tore my Achilles Tendon on Tuesday and have been in the Hospital since Wednesday.

The surgery was successful (especially if the intent was to produce sever and acute pain in my ankle) and I am now on the slow road to recovery. It will be nine months until I am allowed once again to play sports (I injured it during soccer) and It will probably be a little while before I can get back to drawing comics. I have had to scale back some items I take for granted due to my new injury. One is mobility and the other is privacy as my family is coming to visit and I wont have much alone time to sit and draw rude and tasteless comics in their presence.

On the bright side, the ordeal has given me a number of comic idea's that I have to flesh out on paper when I get time. So don't think of this as a death of the comics, more of a short hiatus.

I hope you all continue to humor my poor attempts at comedy when I return these threads to their former (un)glory.

Seriously, I can say that all the people supporting me in these comics are my favorite people since you are the ones who motivate me the most with your lies of enjoyment.

Last thing I want to leave you with: PLEASE stretch properly before and after any activities. As far as I can tell it would greatly reduce the chances of this common and debilitating injury!

Hello everyone!

Four comics, but one isn't really a comic. The last comic, "Who Wrought This Evil" is just a drawing I was thinking about recently. I don't think it's particularly clever or anything but I did have a clear idea of what I wanted to do. One of my classes this semester is an English Graphic Novel class and another is a class that deals with environmental issues. I sort of concocted this comic while I was sitting in these classes. I hope you like this comic as well as the others!

Thanks again for the support guys. I might be doing something a little different with the comic presentation some time soon. I'll keep you posted when I find out more.

Good day everyone!

I've only got 3 new comics this week. To be honest I was having some complications with my school. Turns out that I'm still taking one more year at U of T.

My new classes have eaten up some time, so I was only able to manage three new comics. However, with the 'bad' comes some 'good.' One of my classes is an English course on "Graphic Novels." I've never read a comic book in my life, but this course has some really interesting graphic novels that I am thoroughly enjoying. Hell, I had to read Watchmen as part of the curriculum and I enjoyed it very much. I'm currently reading Epileptic by David B. and I managed to read 1/3 of the book before I forced myself to stop and go to sleep. I think Graphic Novels have garnered a considerable bad rap as being childish, but these novels are very adult and really entertaining.

...Hmmm, what was I posting about?

O yeah, comics, here they are, I tried to decrease the amount of text in my comics. Simply put, they were getting way too complex and people were getting confused by my loquacious format... and rightly so! So I tried to simplify things, and tone down the text. Hope it works out.

Over a year posting these comics, that's some commitment from me.

I revised last weeks comic called Elbow Grease. I left the original in last Sunday's post but I hope that this new version helps make it understandable. Also, this week I have a feeling that at least one of my comics is going to confuse a lot of people. I might be trying to make these things too complex, but whatever, we will see what happens as the week progresses.
